AWOL events are women-only events.
Friday May 24 @ 6 PM – AWOL Hike – Meet at Komoka Provincial Park for an evening hike that is planned for 90 minutes. See the link for directions to the entrance at 503 Gideon Drive, London, N6K 4N8 (Oxford Street extension west of London): https://www.ontarioparks.com/park/komoka/maps. It’s an exciting time of year where many birds have migrated to their nesting grounds, fawns and other wildlife are born, wildflowers are growing and frog song is in full swing. Unless lightning and thundering, this event will take place. Given that spring can and has been wet so far, please come prepared with waterproof hiking boots or rubber boots (I’ll update you closer to the date). Evening hikes are most interesting as this is the time of day when diurnal (active by day) creatures are still out and nocturnal ones start to stir! Feel free to bring your binoculars, camera and a water bottle for this interpretive hike along the trail. Please RSVP to Kathleen at email@example.com by Wednesday May 22nd if you’d like to join us. Any changes/updates to our plans will be sent to those who RSVP.
Saturday June 8th @ 3 PM – June 9th @ noon – AWOL Campout – I don’t need “therapy”. I just need to go camping! If you feel that way too, we have a weekend in June planned for you. Bring your camper or tent. Bring what you want to barbecue and drink. Come and enjoy a bonfire, Smores, and laughter. If you play a guitar, bring it as well! Shelley, our host, is going to open her house, so we can use a washroom. But she is also going to put a port-a-potty near the camp area. The location is in Camlachie (near Sarnia). We only have room for 30 women. Please RSVP to Shelley @ firstname.lastname@example.org. A complete address will be provided to those planning to attend. Update: Photos of the Shelley’s property have been added to our website (under the AWOL logo above) to give you an idea of the lay of the land.
Friday June 14th @ 7 PM – AWOL Bonfire and Wiener Roast – Come one, come all to our bonfire…back by popular demand and outside of the crazy backyard reno season for our yard, we can now host one again in the summer (almost summertime!). Since this will be weather-dependent and will NOT take place if it’s rainy, please RSVP to Kathleen at email@example.com by June 12th if you’d like to attend. We will provide the beef wieners and marshmallows. Please BYOB, chairs, and other type of food (if preferred) to put on a skewer…there’s no grill over our fire pit. So excited to welcome you all again!
Saturday July 6th @ 4 PM – AWOL Sun Fest Outing – If you love music, meet at the Band Shell in Victoria Park. From there we can plan out our stages (where musicians perform all over the park) and have some dinner and time to stroll around and see the many many exhibitors. Bring your money to enjoy the wide selection of food and artisan vendors and BYOChair or blanket. No chairs are provided for this event. Please RSVP to Kathleen @ firstname.lastname@example.org by July 4th so we know how to plan our time.
Sunday July 28th @ noon – AWOL in London Pride Parade – We always enjoy walking in the Pride Parade with our AWOL “float”…our car with AWOL signs hanging from it! If you’d like to walk with us this year, please send your RSVP to Kathleen @ email@example.com by July 26th. More details will be provided closer to the date.
Drayton Theatre Special Offer to AWOL Members
On behalf of Drayton Entertainment theatre company and a part of our community outreach initiative, we would like to extend a special discount ticket offer to the Adventurous Women of London to see our show Glory this season. Glory is the incredible true story of Ontario’s Preston Rivulettes women’s hockey team who went nearly undefeated in the 10 years they played together. Featuring electrifying swing dance choreography inspired by the jazz age, Glory captures all the thrills, exhilaration, and tension of a great hockey game while celebrating female empowerment, and is a show you won’t want to miss! To learn more about the show and the Rivulettes history, click here.
We will be bringing Glory to four of our stages across Ontario this season and we would like to provide AWOL’s staff and members a promotional offer of $24 +HST per adult ticket (a savings of 50%!) to any performance. The production will open here in Cambridge at the Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge (on stage May 15 to June 8), and will then move on to the Huron Country Playhouse II in Grand Bend (on stage June 12 to June 22), the King’s Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene (on stage June 26 to July 6), and will finish in Drayton at the Drayton Festival Theatre (on stage July 10 to July 20). We believe this inspiring local story about female empowerment is a story that woman will love to discover!
Please contact Kathleen Holland if you are interested in this discount and a promotional code will be available to you. firstname.lastname@example.org.
